Brian Wagoner of Dover, NH started making art in his free time about two four years ago after reading Subway Art by Martha Cooper. He was immediately drawn to the rebellious side of art, the self taught artists, the weirdos, the risk takers. His main influences are Basquiat, Huma Bhabha and George Condo, but also finds continued inspiration in punk rock. His other interests include guitar, old time banjo, baseball and his kids. He makes his art from his home studio in Dover. More of his work can be seen at The Art Center.

Amara Goldwalker is a Seacoast-based queer artist.  She mainly works in UV-fluorescent acrylic paint and ink.  All of these pieces were made using watercolor paper, India ink, white calligraphy ink, and various amounts of water.  Amara uses only two brushes to complete all of her works.  Her technique borrows from a variety of disciplines, including Chinese brush painting, watercolor, Japanese calligraphy, traditional landscape painting, and several techniques of Amara's own development, specifically created for these materials.  Amara likes to use her ink-based art to explore feelings of finding a place in an enormous wide universe, existential terror and dread, and the interplay between positive and negative emotions.

Terry Fitzpatrick is from Alton, NH. During her high school years, she drew and painted a lot. As an adult, life became to full and busy for artistic projects. But then in her thirties, she started to create jewelry. Now, after a 30+ year leave of absence, she has taken up the joy of painting once again. Terry likes to share that joy by directing Paint Night classes here at A Freethinker's Corner, and places around the area. She has also picked up numerous crafting skills along the way, to add to her portfolio. Terry hopes that her works bring happiness to your hearts and homes.

Danielle (Losier) Lehoux of Maine was born and raised in Cape Neddick. Megan Miller, from Dover, NH is a prolific artist, drawing dancers and cityscapes, and expressions of her feelings, the Far East. Creatures of the sea continue to be a major interests. The most absorbing interest of all, however, is in her diagnosis, Asperger’s Syndrome (AS).

AS is a form of autism, a neurological phenomenon that reveals itself in intense interests in things and subjects that fill the mind and become obsessions from a very young age. Motor skills are often deficient, but it is the lack of ability to understand social rules and language that causes the most difficulty.

After she was diagnosed, that became her new consuming interest. Gradually over the next few years, Megan’s art, writing and interest in AS evolved into one goal: to educate the public about Asperger’s Syndrome. She wrote letters to newspapers about the abuse kids with AS endure. She lobbied for construction signs to give people warning about loud noise. Currently, Megan is working on a series of drawings of Dover, New Hampshire. Her work has been shown in many libraries, state houses and art galleries.  Visit Megan's website for more information.

New Hampshire artist, Sherry Palmer, prefers to paint outside, on site, in oils and watercolor. The gestures of the land, not the fine detail, interests her. Painting for her is a process of selection and simplification, a reduction to essentials. On the Isle of Skye, Scotland, Sherry found the perfect catalyst for how she enjoys painting. The island landscape made her a better painter. Having traveled to Skye for over thirty years to paint its vast vistas, where theatrical light and moving mist continually redefine the structure of the land, Nature remains her teacher.

Like Skye, the shore here provides similar inspiration. It's from these paintings that Sherry has assembled two groups of work for us: a series of watercolors of frozen tidal pools, and paintings created from designs she's seen in rocks. Sherry often sees landscape forms within a single rock. The cracks, color changes, and breaks in layers, like the shale found along Great Bay, all begin to look like a landscape in miniature. The rock provides the design and she provides the landscape colors known from Skye.

Sarah Mays from Dover, NH is an eclectic artist/creator settled in Dover, N.H. Her path to becoming who she is today has been full of diverse experiences and careers but the constants have been a joy in learning, creating and encouraging others. These three constants continue in her paintings and mixed media pieces.
Sarah's last career was as a K – 12 art teacher. After 15 years of teaching, Sarah never found the time and energy to launch her own business or find time to create; so she quit teaching and enjoyed setting up Present Being Art and getting in her home studio several days a week.

Sarah's focus is on abstract painting in either oil with cold wax or acrylics. It just depends on how quickly she wants to work. Because of teaching so many grades for so many years, she truly loves all mediums and will often have sculptures drying next to her paintings while working on a bit of embroidery, quilting or simply crochet a new hat. No matter what, creating gives a peaceful sense of being present when she is focused on her work.
