December 24 - Open for a bit...
Normally we are closed on Mondays, but it is Christmas Eve, so we thought we would open for a few hours to give all the last minute shoppers (like me) a chance to grab a quick gift. We will be open from 9am to 2pm. Then, it's off to Grandmother's house we go. Be safe, and Merry Christmas from A Freethinker's Corner.
December 25 - Closed
December 30 - Meet the Artist 3pm to 5pm
January 18 - Author’s Night at the Vineyard, 6PM – 9PM
This event is sponsored by the New England Authors Expo, and hosted by Zorvino Vinyards in Sandown, NH. The Expo consists of many New England authors, illustrators, publishers, writer's groups, schools and businesses. It's an excellent place to network, buy books and sample wines. It is free and open to the public. Mary Ann Esposito (of Ciao Italia fame) will be their special guest, and the list of other participating authors is growing and can be found on the Expo's website.
February 9 - "Cosplay Day" with the Authors
Join us, starting at NOON, to meet our featured author, Elana Mugdan, writer of the young adult novel DRAGON SPEAKER. Hear her read from her book, then stay to speak with her and have her sign a copy for you. As you can see, Elana dresses the part for her events, and we hope that you will, as well. Details are still to be determined, but there maybe giveaways and prizes for coming dressed up as your favorite character.
Elana A. Mugdan is an author and semi-retired filmmaker based in New York City. She has received many accolades in the film industry, including a number of awards for her feature film Director's Cut, which she wrote, directed, and produced by herself. An avid reader, Elana is a lifelong fan of fantasy stories -- particularly ones which revolve around dragons. She is described by her friends and family as "the weirdest person I know", and wears that weirdness proudly on her sleeve. Some of her favorite authors include J.R.R. Tolkein, Peter S. Beagle, and Robert Jordan. Elana currently resides in New York, living a quiet but eccentric life with her pet snake, Medusa.
Other authors who will be joining us are Jim Mastro (Dover, NH), and Morgan Sylvia (Gardner, ME). More will be announced as they sign on.
April 14 - Author’s Night by the Sea, 2-6 pm
This event is being hosted by the New England Authors Expo at Cisco Brewers in Portsmouth, NH. The Expo consists of many New England authors, illustrators, publishers, writer's groups, schools and businesses. It is an excellent place to network and buy books. It is free and open to the public. Come and meet great up-and-coming and well established local talent. More information is available on their website.
June 12 - "Mom-ologue", the Mother of all Seminars, w/ Velya and Ehris Urban
Meet Ehris & Velya, a zany teacher & a sage herbalist who were grounded, lost everything, became a powerful mother/daughter team – and better versions of themselves. Ehris Urban, owner of Woodbury, CT’s Grounded Holistic Wellness, believes, “if you’re grounded, you can navigate even the bumpiest roads in peace.” She grew up in a family passionate about holistic medicine. Velya Jancz-Urban lives her life by the adage, “there is no growth without change.” Zany and gregarious, she is a teacher, author, former Brazilian dairy farm owner, and expert on New England’s colonial women.
Lightening darkness with humor, together they introduce readers to their offbeat Connecticut family. How to Survive a Brazilian Betrayal takes readers along on an unconventional family’s hilariously honest, yet heart-wrenching, journey. Readers will fall in love with their spunk, feel the knockout punches of betrayal along with them, and be rooting for them to get back up off the mat.
Their seminar, Mom-ologue, explores mother/daughter dynamics in a funny and frank way. Women will explore how their ability to nurture and care for themselves depended very much on how their mom's history has influenced their lives - and how understanding that can lead toward a different future. A book signing for How to Survive a Brazilian Betrayal will take place after the seminar.
This will be a ticketed event. Price, times, and other details will be announced soon.
