James Rourke... Here.
Author and educator James Rourke is a mainstay in the history department of Norwich Free Academy. He has published three books: The Eternal Struggle, From My Classroom to Yours, and The Comic Book Curriculum. Rourke simply states he “needs to write.” Rourke has taught social studies at Norwich Free Academy for 25 years and has somehow found time to earn a doctorate in education between writing and teaching. His latest book, Out of the Basement, was published in May, 2020.
His creative classroom techniques include something he calls “visionary education” which teaches the whole child. His methodology instills ideals such as perseverance in the student, not just memorization of facts and figures. When not writing or teaching, he may be found with his children and grandson at Rock the Docks in Norwich Harbor, Gillette Castle, Mohegan Park or possibly eating at two of his favorite locales, These Guys in downtown Norwich or Hank’s in Plainfield.
