Paul Laurence Dunbar, poet, novelist and playwright, was born on June 27, 1872 to freed slaves from Kentucky. He coined the phrase "I know why the caged bird sings" in his poem Sympathy, which later helped inspire Maya Angelou's novel. The verse on this mask come from Dunbar's poem "We wear the Mask."
These face masks are 100% premium cotton, with a pocket for a filter and are machine washable. They have pleats to contour to your face, a metal insert at the nose for a close fit, two elastic bands that wrap around your neck and head, and tubular elastic ear loops for a comfortable fit. The fabric has a lovely subtle tonal quality. The fabric is printed and the masks sewn at a small factory in Compton, California.
